I dance the dance of painting for three reasons. First, color fascinates me, actually stops me in my tracks and holds me spellbound. Bright colors against muted ones, bright colors contrasted with each other, and deep shadows shaped by areas of intense light dictate paintings to me as I witness them. Second, paint’s smell and feel--especially artists’-quality oil paint--give me a rush every time I mix it. Third, using the paints to translate my perception expands my experience, teaches me a new language. Whenever I begin a painting, I feel as if I’m stepping onto a dance floor to dance Argentine tango* with a much-beloved partner. The process is passionate, alchemical, and 100% engaging.
I am in love with life, with the miracle of love and light, with mystery, and I paint to express this.
